The Falcons went back and forth with a rowdy Spurgeon crowd breathing down their neck in the regular season finale. Spurgeon would claim the Central Region Championship for the regular season with a 108-105 victory in double overtime. The loss made the Falcons 16-9 on the season and they are now ranked #7 in the NCCAA Division II Coaches Poll.
Spurgeon led by as many as eight points in the first half, but the Falcons ended the half with a 15-5 run to lead 46-42 at the break. The Knights pushed back out to a nine point second half lead but a 15-2 Kansas Christian run midway through the half put the Falcons ahead once again. Spurgeon led 84-79 with 2:09 remaining in the game but the Falcons rallied again to force overtime with the game tied 86-86 at the end of regulation. The teams remained tied after an overtime period at 90-90 before the Knights finally took the victory in double overtime.
Malik Martin scored a team high 30 points with Kaiden Hunter scoring 29. Brandon Anthony had 11 points. Oscar Traylor had 12 rebounds.
Postseason play begins on Thursday when the Falcons host Manhattan Christian for the first round of the Central Region Tournament at 6pm in Cowen Memorial Auditorium. The Central Region Championship Game is Saturday at 6pm. Location is determined based on first round winners.
