The Kansas Christian softball team split a double header at Southwestern on Tuesday. The win over Southwestern was the first in softball program history over an NAIA team. The Falcons are now 3-9 on the season.
The first game began ominously for the Falcons as they allowed four runs in the first inning and trailed 4-0. The Falcons answered with two runs in the second and two in the third to tie the game. Sam Johnson then lifted a sacrifice fly to score Alexis Williams in the fifth for the Falcons in what proved to be the deciding run as the Falcons held on for a 5-4 win.
Ari Lopez pitched a complete game and held the Moundbuilders scoreless after the first inning in the win. Lopez finished with seven innings pitched allowing four runs on eight hits. She struck out three and walked three. Alexis Williams and Cherie Green paced the offense with three hits each. Williams also scored two runs and drove in one. Green drove in one run as well. Trinitie Butler had two hits and an RBI. Haven Kelly, Aubrey Smith, and Sam Johnson each had one hit.
Game two proved to be a slugfest as the teams combined for 27 runs on 23 hits in a 14-13 win for Southwestern in eight innings. Ari Lopez and Cherie Green each had two hits. Green also had three RBIs. Alexis Williams tripled, scored, and drove in three runs. Sam Johnson walked fourt imes and scored a run. Baylee Highfill, Aubrey Smith scored two runs. Ari Lopez tossed another complete game into extra innings in the loss.
