For the first time in program history, the Kansas Christian College softball team swept their first two games of the season in their home opener against Haskell University. The Falcons then followed that with a double header split against Haskell this week making their record 3-1 on the season. Their best start to a season.
The Falcons scored three runs in their first time at bat after allowing no runs in the top of the first. They never looked back as Kansas Christian went on to score 14 runs on 11 hits beating Haskell 14-6. Isabella Davis, Hannah Jenkins and Sammi Boothe each had two hits. Jenkins also drove in three runs while Boothe drove in two. Both of Sammi Boothe's RBIs came on an inside the park home run. Cambree Prescott, Natalie Aguinaga, and Davis all scored three runs. The Falcons sent three pitcher's to the circle as Ariana Lysakowski earned the win.
Game two was more of the same as Kansas Christian scored 10 runs on nine hits. The scoring began with another three run inning but this time it came in the second. McKinzi Sowles and Emma Martinez both had two hits to pace the offense. Brynne Grammer and Natalie Aguinaga scored two runs. Sammi Boothe drove in three runs and Cambree Prescott drove in two,. Boothe and Aguinaga each hit a double. Prescott stole a base. Gabi Lopez tossed a complete game allowing just one run on one hit.
In the second double header against Haskell, the Falcons dug themselves into a hole early on in game one. Despite a valiant effor to come back they would fall 19-11. Cambree Prescott was four for four at the plate with two runs scored, a double and an RBI. Sammit Boothe, Hannah Jenkins, and Emmar Martinez each had two hits. Priscilla Cabral also had a hit.
The final game aganst Haskell went the way of the Falcons 16-7. Cambree Prescott continued here perfect double header with another four for four performance with a HR and two RBI to go with three runs scored and two stolen bases. Isabella Davis, Gabi Lopez and Brynne Grammer each had two hits. Brynne Grammer launched the longest home run in program history in the fourth inning landing up on the community center roof behind the field at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy.
The Falcons now turn their attention to Hannibal-Lagrange University who they will take on Monday, March 16 in a double header beginning at 1pm in Hannibal, Mo.
