The Kansas Christian baseball team improved to 27-17 on the season with a four game sweep at Arlington Baptist this weekend.
In the first game of the series, Kansas Christian got behind early as the Patriots plated a run in the bottom of the first to lead 1-0. Six runs for the Falcons in the third would be all they got, but it was enough for a 6-2 win. Juan Polo earned the win on the mound, and Emmett Lafleur tossed two scoreless innings in relief. Stay'Jawn Hunter and Jesus Reyes paced the offense with two hits a piece. Brey Turner had a hit and drove in two runs. Carlos Jones had a two RBI single.
The bats got hot for the Falcons in game two plating 11 runs on 12 hits in an 11-1 win. Stay'Jawn Hunter went three for four scoring three times and driving in two runs. Eddie Grayson and Jesus Reyes each had a pair of hits. Brilynn Stults finished with a hit, three RBIs and three runs scored. Jared Fulghem had a two run double and Ben Shively drove in a pair of runs. Leandro Mendez pitched four innings and earned the win on the mound. Parker Bryant pitched three scoreless innings in relief.
Game three on Saturday featured a pitcher's dual and Cody Ziegelmeyer was up for the challenge. Ziegelmeyer allowed a two out bloop single to left before retiring 19 straight to end the game. He faced just one batter over the minimum allowing no runner further than first base in a complete game, shutout win. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. The Falcons finally broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the seventh when Kris Davis lifted an RBI double to left center to score Jabari Walker. Carlos Jones sent a sacrifice fly to left field to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead which would be the final score.
In the final game of the series, Kansas Christian would prevail by a score of 3-1. Jose Ballista made his first start of the season and tossed a complete game allowing just one run. Ballista did not walk a batter and struck out three while allowing just four hits. Chris Hunter went one for four with two RBIs and a run scored. Stay'Jawn Hunter went one for one and scored a run. Jesus Reyes also had a hit and a run scored. Ben Shively singled and walked.
Kansas Christian closes regular season play this week when they host Randall. The games have been moved to Wednesday and Thursday this week beginning at 11am each day at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy.
