Volleyball Falls in Home Opener, Hosts Ottawa in Exhibition Matches During First Week of Play

The Kansas Christian volleyball team kicked off athletic action for the 2022-23 school year on Wednesday. The Falcons hosted Calvary University out of Belton, Mo. 

After a slow start the Falcons showed solid play in the final two sets but ultimately fell in three sets. Three freshmen earned starts for the Falcons in Sidnee Bergquist, Layne Shipley, and Layla Dixon. Daria Korovina, Latressa Saunders, and Brendeja Hollomon all started as well. 

Daria Korovina finished with the team high in assists with nine. Holloman, Korovina, and Dixon each had three kills. Dixon and Holloman each had a block assist. Korovina had eight digs and Saudners finished with seven. Dixon had six digs and Shipley had five. 

The Falcons hosted a pair of exhibition matches the following night with Ottawa University. Ottawa sent two JV squads to Cowen Memorial Auditorium. After falling in three sets in the first match, the Falcons rebounded to take their first set of the year in the second match. It was shortened to a three set match and the Falcons would eventually fall 2-1. 

The volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, August 30 with a 7pm match at Spurgeon College in Kansas City, MO.
